I read 12 books in 2022. With the hopes that someone will find this valuable, I'm going to recommend my favorites.

  • Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies: I wrote a post about this book while I was reading it. It’s a great time to read this book, given how much AI has progressed in the last year with GPT-3, Dall-E and so many other new things coming out.

  • The Smartest Guys In The Room: The extreme focus on the stock market price at Enron led to one of the biggest frauds in history. This book made me wonder how easy it was for rank and file employees at Enron to look away and let the fraud continue.

  • Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar — It’s absolutely horrifying to read the seemingly normal ways that Stalin and his court lived while millions of people were dying.

  • The Dispossessed — How would an anarchist utopia actually work?

  • Hyperion — Terrifying science fiction with some amazing stories.

Let me know if you found any of these recommendations interesting/helpful.

For the sake of completeness, here’s all the books I read in 2022:
